LEVELS AND BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS IN PATIENTS WITH
DIABETES MELLITUS

ABSTRACT
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease with a continuously increasing prevalence
globally and nationally, and it has become a major health problem due to its
complications. One of the factors affecting blood glucose control in patients with
diabetes mellitus is stress, which can trigger physiological and behavioral
changes that impact glycemic control. This study aims to determine the
relationship between stress levels and blood glucose levels in patients with
diabetes mellitus based on a literature study. The research method used is a
literature study with a scoping review approach by searching articles in the
Google Scholar and ScienceDirect databases within the period of 20212026. The
selection process was carried out based on inclusion and exclusion criteria,
resulting in 7 articles consisting of 6 national articles and 1 international article
that were systematically analyzed. The results of the study show that most patients
with diabetes mellitus have uncontrolled or hyperglycemic blood glucose levels,
and stress levels are mostly in the moderate to severe categories. In addition, all
articles indicate a relationship between stress levels and blood glucose levels,
where increased stress is associated with higher blood glucose levels. The
conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between stress levels and
blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. It is recommended that
patients improve stress management and adherence to treatment, and that
healthcare providers deliver comprehensive education and interventions in
diabetes mellitus management.
